Venezia

I have to say that returning to somewhere like Venice, we are both fortunate in opportunity and in that it allows you to just mooch - as opposed to map clutching speed walking like a crazed orienteer. Florence was a similar experience - far more ice cream, smiles, and distraction. More of what holidays are all about.

So starts the slow process of putting what we saw into words - albeit pictorial ones. Having thrashed through the whole fortnight of images to JPG - a kind of first cut or contact print set... so begins the task of picking out the ones that really put across what we saw and felt.

As with most things it is much about luck and timing - and we where fortunate with the weather, leaving the rain and wind of home for an overcast day with sun, cooling as the day went on... but nothing that couldn't be overcome with a scarf and a mulled wine, a minor result in itself. Last time where where there it was wet, very very wet, to the point that having the camera out was a hazard. But it bought alive the smooth marble, the coloured stone, and kept the people away... either way a beautiful St Marks island.
